Getting started

Plug your iPhone in, prop it on your nightstand pointed at your pillow, and tap Start Sleep. SleepCam captures one photo at the interval you choose (1, 2, or 5 minutes) for the rest of the night, and optionally records audio alongside. In the morning, end the session to see a scrubbable timelapse with the audio waveform.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my recordings stored?

Entirely on your iPhone, inside SleepCam's private app container. Nothing is uploaded to any server — SleepCam doesn't have one. Your photos and audio are never sent off your device unless you explicitly tap Share or Save to Photos.

The screen flashes during recording. Why?

The front camera needs supplemental light to capture a usable photo in a dark room, so SleepCam briefly turns the screen white at each capture. You can adjust the brightness — or disable the screen flash entirely — under More options on the setup screen. Rear camera uses the LED torch instead, also adjustable.

Why does my phone's screen go dark?

SleepCam dims the screen to 1% brightness during recording so the OLED panel uses almost no power and doesn't disturb you. The screen briefly brightens for each photo and then re-dims. Tap once to wake the controls back up.

How do I delete a recording?

Swipe left on the session in the All Sessions list and tap Delete, or open the session and tap the ⋯ menu → Delete Session.

How do I export a timelapse video?

Open a session, tap the ⋯ menu → Export Timelapse. Pick a length (15, 30, or 60 seconds), toggle whether to include timestamps, and tap Create. When the export finishes you can preview it inline and tap Save to Photos.

Why doesn't audio play at high speeds?

iPhone audio playback is reliable up to roughly 2× — above that the audio is unintelligible. At 5× and beyond, SleepCam mutes the audio and advances the timeline visually. You can re-enable audio at high speeds with the speaker icon, but it will sound like noise.

Can I use SleepCam alongside another sleep audio app?

Yes. Turn off the Record audio option on the setup screen — SleepCam will then never open the microphone, leaving it free for the other app to claim.

How long can a session last?

Up to 12 hours. SleepCam automatically ends and saves the session if you forget to stop it — so you don't wake up to a runaway recording. SleepCam also needs the app foregrounded with the screen on (dimmed) to capture photos, so keep your phone plugged in for the duration of your night.

Why does the app keep my screen on?

iOS does not allow background camera access. SleepCam must stay foregrounded with the screen on to capture photos at the cadence you set. The screen is dimmed to almost zero so power use stays low and the bedroom stays dark.
