SleepCam
Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 7, 2026
Overview
SleepCam is designed to keep your sleep recordings private. Everything stays on your iPhone. SleepCam does not run any servers, does not have user accounts, and does not contain analytics, advertising, tracking, or third-party SDKs.
What SleepCam captures
While a session is running, SleepCam may capture:
- Photos at the interval you choose (timelapse frames).
- Audio, if you enable audio recording.
- Preferences you set in the app (camera, flash, exposure, interval, audio toggle).
Where it lives
All captured photos, audio, and preferences are stored only in SleepCam's private container on your device. Data is included in your standard iCloud device backup if you have one — Apple manages that storage and it is not visible to us.
What is never sent off your device
- Photos and audio from your sessions.
- Your settings and preferences.
- Any device identifier, usage data, crash report, or diagnostic.
The only time data leaves SleepCam is when you explicitly tap Share or Save to Photos. The destination (Photos, Messages, Mail, etc.) is chosen by you and governed by Apple's and that app's privacy terms — not ours.
Permissions
SleepCam asks for Camera, Microphone (optional), and Photos library (only when exporting). These are used only for the on-device recording and export features described above.
Face data not collected
You are the only person who can ever see your SleepCam photos. The photos and audio recorded by SleepCam never leave your device. We — the developers — cannot see them. No one at SleepCam, no server, no cloud service, and no third party ever receives, views, processes, or stores them. There is no SleepCam account to sign in to and no SleepCam server to send anything to.
Because the camera is pointed at you while you sleep, those on-device photos will typically contain your face. To be specific about how that imagery is handled:
- Collection. SleepCam captures standard 2D photos using the front camera at the interval you choose, and stores them only in SleepCam's private container on your device. On devices with a TrueDepth camera, the flood illuminator may be used to make the photos visible in a dark room — only the resulting 2D image is saved. SleepCam does not use Face ID, ARKit face tracking, the Vision face-detection APIs, depth maps, face geometry, or any other facial-recognition or biometric system. No face template, face print, face mesh, or facial landmarks are derived, computed, or stored.
- Use. The photos are used for one purpose: letting you replay your night as a timelapse inside SleepCam, on your own device. They are never analyzed, scanned, modeled, classified, or used to train anything.
- Disclosure and sharing. SleepCam does not share, transmit, upload, sell, or disclose your photos (or anything derived from them) to us, to any third party, to any server, to any analytics provider, or to any advertising provider. The photos remain on your device unless you explicitly tap Share or Save to Photos, in which case the destination you choose handles the file under its own privacy terms.
- Retention. Photos remain in SleepCam's private on-device container until you delete them — swipe left on a session in the All Sessions list and tap Delete, use Settings → Delete all sessions, or uninstall the app, at which point iOS purges the entire app container. We have no copy to retain or to delete on your behalf, because we never received one.
Deleting your data
To delete a session, swipe left on it in the All Sessions list and tap Delete. To remove every recording and preference SleepCam has stored, uninstall the app from your iPhone — iOS will purge the entire app container.
Children
SleepCam is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone.
